Student feedback on Patty’s teaching. These words describe the experiences stated below.
Patty is a natural and supportive teacher. Her exercises build on each other, so you start to achieve work you didn’t think possible. Always attentive and on hand when needed. Highly recommend.
As a complete beginner, I struggled with concepts that more experienced sketchers seem to take for granted: understanding light and shadow, knowing which colours work together and why, and discovering that a handful of marks in the right place can carry more weight than a page full of detail.
What changed that for me was finding a teacher who could break these ideas down without making me feel as though I was missing something obvious.
Patty has the ability to simplify complex concepts without oversimplifying them. Her explanations gave me a framework I actually understood and could apply immediately. She is warm, patient and genuinely invested in her students making progress.
If you are new to urban sketching or watercolour and feel that the fundamentals are just out of reach, I cannot recommend her highly enough.
