Ian was the first artist brave enough—or perhaps simply quick enough—to answer my ten slightly nosy questions. His replies arrived with very little hesitation and are every bit as entertaining as I’d hoped.

So let’s get straight into the questions!

1. Favourite subject to sketch?

  • American landscapes

2. Early bird or night owl?

  • Neither—I like lots of sleep

3. Colour you can’t do without?

  • Transparent Orange

4. Can you sing?

  • Yes—all the time.

5. One art supply you hoard?

  • Watercolour paint

6. Favourite item of clothing?

  • Suede boots

7. One item in your kit you couldn’t do without?

  • Zero rigger brushes

8. Silliest art supply you’ve ever bought?

  • Spiderman camping chair

9. Funniest comment from a passer-by?

“That sketch is shite. Why don’t you just take a photo, then go to the pub?”

10. Favourite motto, quote or saying?

  • “Make art to find out what’s inside you.”...

Here are some of Ian’s fabulous sketches that he kindly shared -
